KIM Gyungmin (1972~)
Kim Gyung Min with her sensitive perception and rich sentiment reproduces a scene from our daily life into a joyful sculpture work. The banal scenes of our life are represented in an innovative light. The figure of Kim’s work informed by her particular sense of humor along with her outstanding characteristic depictions release a positive aura and derives humor from the audience. The figure’s expression and gesture allows an illusion that stories of our lives are transferred into the exhibition space. Kim’s sculptures surpass the artist herself to representing the image of the entire modern people thus the viewer themselves become the work’s subject and allows us to visually and psychologically communicate with the work; Kim sculpts a universal human figure – not confined to a specific nationality, culture and society. Artist Kim Gyung Min received her B.F.A and M.F.A from Sungshin Women’s University and currently working on her doctorate at Hongik University. Right after undergraduate school, Kim received the Grand Prize at the 7th Korea Figurative Sculpture Art Festival by MBC. Since then she gained recognition in art circles and from collectors and has had numerous exhibitions at many prestigious galleries.
