KWON Chigyu (1966~)

Physics term, ‘resilience’ refers to the resilience of shape. When it is told as psychological, it is power of resistance to mental stress and willingness to sustain life. However, Kwon Chi-gyu uses the term in order to explain characteristics of power. When the power of negativeness, decomposition and suppression employs, the opposing power exists as well. They are positiveness and liberty. The two different characteristics that oppose each other make a rhythm and this is one of the truths of nature.
Kwon Chi-gyu visualize ‘power’. There are objects that are existing, but not visible. Air, wind, fever, smell and the various emotions prove their existences thought different senses, not sight or touch. They do not have a form. Power, also, does not have a form but, definitely exists and people feel it strongly. Kwon experiments the strength, directivity, influence and the relationship between the powers in order to give a form to them. He concentrates on the emotion that appears when the power gets a form. A shape that is uplifting shows the power of soaring up and delivers the positive feeling such as energetic and regeneration. A tight shape reflects the power of pulling on both sides and delivers a tension. Kwon continues his work to give a shape to the power which is originally invisible.
