PARK Jaeseok
Cartoons reflect everyday life and arouse empathy. Although contents that take various and sensational subjects are flourishing now, things that stimulate our sensitivity is the stories that is not tremendous, but affectionate. Characters in cartoons make the viewers happy with their funny faces and exaggerated gestures, no matter how much they are worth. The light and cheerful atmosphere in cartoons allows us escaping from a busy life in the society that always requires seriousness and taking a rest. Interestingly, those aspects of cartoons also appear in Jaeseok Park’s works even though the works are presented as a format of sculpture. The people described in his works are not always in a good situation, but have a certain characteristic that makes the spectators delightful. They look like common people who try to be happy in their lives even if they sometimes cry, argue or fight. That is the point how his work move the viewers. When looking at his work, the viewer does not have to struggle with finding the meaning behind, but just enjoys as it is and take a time to heal. The way of expression does not pursue perfection or an ordinary beauty, but they are active and lively revealing their unique beauty. |
