PARK Jihye (1984~) The more science develops and our daily lives become convenient, the more human being becomes lonely. Jihye Park thinks that being connected with others is becoming the most difficult task for some people today. She says that it may be because they unintentionally hurt and are hurt one other when getting closer. The situation leads them to feeling that the inside of the house is the most comfortable nest and refuge. But, the thread of hopeful light is still twinkling, not leading them into darkness. In her work, Jihye Park brings the difficulties occurring in relationships as a subject matter. The unique and surrealistic narratives in her work are based on the senses of alienation, isolation, solitude, anxiety, loneliness, depression and disconnection of communication to bring the human's deep and dark inner side up. It is possibly said that the common idea of those senses is from the dark side of mind but, her scenes have been so beautifully and precisely expressed on the canvases that arouse people’s curiosities. People live spending countless images from morning to night such as, they unconsciously pass by a number of scenes around them. Nevertheless, some images surrounding people, unfortunately, rarely give an impression. People do not focus on every single image, but choose what they want to look at. For the reason, the images, which are not picked by people, silently disappear in their mind. Anyone cannot enforce someone focusing on or remembering a certain image. If an image remains in our memory, it must be remembered by our choice. Also, images are interpreted very differently by the way how we look at it. Likewise, her images can arouse various points of view by spectators: an image of her can be a marvelous sight for some while the others feel that it’s a painful scene, which makes them look back in nostalgia. There is a distance between the visible image and the meaning that veiled from this image. The distance could be narrowed down or getting wider depending on how we should look at. Park says that the only one thing that we can ask is “which scene are you looking at? Education 2007 B.F.A. Western painting.
