Changha Hwang studied at Parsons School and Hunter College and has been working in New York, Paris, Madrid and Brussel.
His work is intuitive and abstract without any planned intention. His artistic languages are originated from his interest in Islamic tile pattern, Jewish traditional paper cut, and Venice lace. These share visual experiences of regular patterns. The artist is particularly interested in the relation of multiple images in these patterned space. He stated, " What I hope to create in my painting is the visceral tactility of the concept of relationship of space and time. I am not interested in making paintings that have traditional sense of clear divisions of figure and ground. I want to make a painting monotopical rather than discursive. I am going for the objecthood of the colors in painting." As he said about his works, in his works colors in more important than shape. And accidental abstract shape made by the combination of colors is the ground of his works.
