Gallery by the Harbour Presents
“Smile Village” Alexander Antadze Solo Exhibition
Gallery by the Harbour is pleased to hold Georgian artist Alexander Antadze’s first solo exhibition, “Smile Village”, in Hong Kong, from 23 April to 17 May 2020. It consists of a series of animal artworks under the theme of happiness and positivity.
Alexander Antadze has been greatly influenced by his motherland’s culture. In this exhibition, the artist portrays various animals that can be found in Tbilisi’s natural environment. The vibrant animals in his works demonstrate happiness with cheerful expressions. The artist also focuses on small joys and amusements that exist amongst countless conflicts and struggles. His attempt in finding delight through painting in the midst of extreme circumstances is not his way of escaping from the situation, but his way to hope for and share even the tiniest amount of joy.
These animal caricature paintings hope to convey some optimistic messages to the viewers. The artist, who refers to his own works as “paintings that love you”, wishes to comfort people who are exhausted by the rough reality through creating art that supports people instead of art that are simply admired by people.
About the Artist
Alexander Antadze was born in 1972 in Georgia. He studied fine arts at Georgia’s Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. The artist held his first solo exhibition in London in 2003, and for the past ten years, has been gradually building his profile mainly in Europe by exhibiting in the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Netherland, Russia, and Georgia.
