Japanese artist Shinji Ohmaki has directed large scale installation works in order to directly communicate with viewers. At the final stage of creation, he induces active engagement and voluntrary movement from viewers through which his work is completed. Ohmaki uses daily object and materials such as whiteour correction fluid, bubble and piece of fabric and turns the whole space into a large scale artwork. The seemingly ordinary space is transformed into an extraordinary space where viewers are amusingly overwhelmed and curious regarding relationship between life and space, life and art. Shinji Ohmaki obtained bachelors and masters degree in Sculpture at the Art University of Tokyo. His large scale works can be characterized by utilization of viewers’ participation and unpredictable changes in the form of space according to how viewers engage themselves to bring change to the scene. Shinji’s powerful but concise visual language has appealed to critics and the general public. In 2000, he received ‘Tokyo Wonder Wall 2000’ award, a public exhibition and an award hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Since then he has been invited to galleries worldwide acclaims. He was selected as the best Young Artist at SH Contemporary 09 and has participated in the residency programs at Vermont Sudio Center(USA), Ssamji Space(Korea) and IAAB(Swiss).
