Yasuko Iba (1967~)

Iba Yasuko paints common day-to-day objects such as bed linen, cushion, porcelain but with most extraordinary skill and perception to turn these objects into a passive yet elegant scene. The artist sometimes fills the whole canvas with the pattern of a fabric or a corner of a cushion observing and capturing how color and texture of the object and light upon it form a calm and beautiful scene. The artist uses tapping method instead of strokes to better express the delicate light dissolved onto the surface of the object and how refraction of light affects appearance of texture. The objects in Iba's canvas are endowed with kind of life that they are no longer more objects of our daily lives but untitled 'beings'.

Iba Yasuko completed graduate and post graduate course at Saga Art College in Kyoto and won the The Vision of Contemporary Art '98 award in 1998 from the Ueno Royal Museum. Also winning the Daimler chrysler Group scholarship and Japanese Goverment's Oversea Study Program for Artists, she spent time in France and U.S. A group show 'The Elegance of Silence' at the MORI Art Museum in Tokyo in which she participated as well as 'Tsubaki kai' at the Shiseido Gallery and numerous group and solo shows were all highly received. The artist works most actively in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto and is one of the best selling artists at international art fairs. Iba's works were first introduced in Korea ar KIAF '06 and were shown at the Inchon Biennale the following year. Her solo show in Seoul took place at Gallery SUN contemporar
